With more than 20.000 international couples who visit Denmark to have their big day here every year, we decided to build this magazine to give you inspiration for your Danish elopement.
Renate Meimere; Copenhagen wedding photographer, consummate professional and trusted GMiD collaborating partner, has put together this guide with tips and advice to help you feel at ease in front of the camera, on one of the most important days of your life.
When Leanne from Getting Married in Denmark asked me to talk about Pride and LGBTQIA weddings, I felt really privileged to have the opportunity to use this space to talk about such topics. This also shows Getting Married in Denmark’s commitment towards creating a better world for us all, which makes me very proud to collaborate with them.
My name is Martina (she/her), wedding and elopement photographer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. And I’m queer.
Find out what is going on in, or near to, the town you are getting married in our ‘What’s On in Denmark’ guide. We have picked the most notable events we think are worth checking out, if you have the time while you’re here to help you truly immerse yourself in Danish culture.

The language rule is one of the least-known requirements for civil weddings in Denmark, and it applies at every town hall, whether you marry in Copenhagen, Aarhus, or a small municipality.
If either of you isn`t fluent in English, German, or Danish, sort out an interpreter as early as you book your ceremony date.
After their wedding, Philipp and Lindsay told us “Our time in Denmark has been an absolute dream”...
How utterly lovely is this?! This is exactly what we love to hear and we are so very happy for you Philipp and Lindsay. Huge congratulations on your very special wedding day in Denmark.

“Copenhagen really is the happiest city in the world and we are absolutely happy with our choice. With me being Italian/Bosnian, Andrew being American, and having our habitual residence in Germany, anywhere else the whole process would have been complicated, but Denmark made it nice, smooth, and incredibly warm! You people are all so "warm" and that`s what everyone needs while making such a big step in their lives…
It`s hard to put into words the amount of beautiful emotions we felt during our wedding...but if we should do it somehow, we would say that in all these years we`ve been on this earth, we had never felt more alive and happy than yesterday.
We were surrounded by our family and friends, in a bubble of love and in a place none of us belongs to, but that felt so much like home...no wonder the word "hygge" is so much associated with the Danish culture!
You guys from GMID have always been there for us from day one, providing kind and fast support, which is crucial for people who plan a wedding from abroad. On the morning of our wedding, the lovely Anastasiia did my hair and make-up and we had a great time together (even though a wasp came to visit us and stayed in the hotel room for almost the whole session!). Then, our amazing photographer Leandro did a great job with picturing all the beautiful emotions during and after the wedding, and we had a great reception at Green Island by the water.“
What an incredibly happy day our lovely Sejla and Andrew had, making memories that will last a lifetime. Huge congratulations to you both.

Darlene & Lee came to Denmark just the 2 of them and they had the most wonderful & romantic time together in Copenhagen…
“We had an amazing time in Denmark and a wonderful wedding day. With just the two of us, it was calm, relaxed and exciting and emotional all at the same time.
We stayed at Villa Copenhagen and enjoyed a lovely morning with breakfast and getting ready. We met our photographers at the hotel and together we made our way to the City Hall. We had a short but very heartfelt wedding ceremony.
Afterwards, we had a small coffee break before taking a walk through the city. We finished the day with cutting our wedding cake and a glass of champagne in Frederiksberg Have.
We wouldn`t change a thing and would do it the same way all over again.”
This makes us so happy to hear, Darlene & Lee, what happy memories you have made!. Huge congratulations to you both.
