Why Get Married in Dragør?
Dragør is a small town hall and not likely one that you will have heard of but it is often chosen by couples who want to get married close to the capital. Its extremely close location to Copenhagen city centre and the airport makes it a popular choice for couples – requiring minimal travel once arriving in Denmark, while being able to fully enjoy everything that Copenhagen has to offer.
This town hall only officially offers Thursdays to international couples who want to get married here, with witnesses provided by the town hall. This can mean that availability is not that great.
Saturdays are reserved for Danish couples only and they do not conduct weddings on Fridays.
However, if you prefer another weekday and there is plenty of time between your request and the date in question, we can always ask the town hall if they are able to marry you on another day of the week (Mon – Thurs). Dragør will try to accommodate you if they can, but please note this is not guaranteed and it’s not likely they will be able to provide witnesses on any other day than Thursdays, so in these cases you may need to bring your own.
For a wedding on a Thursday, witnesses will be provided for you, however, if you request a wedding on another day, witnesses are not guaranteed so you must be prepared to bring your own.
This is actually a difficult question to answer! There is only 1 person who works in the marriage office at Dragør and she is very busy. There are some occasions where we have received a response to marriage date requests on the same day, there are some occasions where it has been around 10 working days. And everything in between! It does depend on how busy the marriage office is and so you must be prepared to wait up to 2 weeks for a reply.
You must present your documents around 10/15 minutes prior to your ceremony.

The Look and Feel of a Wedding in Dragør
Dragør town hall is a functional looking building when looking at it from an exterior perspective but inside the room where weddings take place it is decorated with that ever present classy and timeless Danish design. The staff at the town hall make a real effort to make sure the couples who marry there feel special by including small touches, such as placing candles on the table. 😊
As it is the way with all civil ceremonies in Denmark, the wedding ceremony is short, lasting around 5 minutes. The paperwork is signed and you are then free to go – as a newly married couple.
