This is for those couples who are considering getting married in Denmark and are looking for some helpful information on how to get started and how the process works:

This is for those of you who wish to be actively involved in the Danish marriage application process, but want to ensure that you and your partner will get the documentation right, fully understand the application process and lower the chance of long delays.

The Marriage Application Process with the Danish Government

  • You will be working with our Marriage Application Team, who’ll get to know you and define the detailed list of documents for your case
  • We inform you how and where you can get your documents legalised (only if required) 
  • You email us the documents specified in the detailed documentation list
  • We check and prepare your documents to ensure they meet the requirements of the Danish government and are formatted the way the AFL wants to receive them 
  • We advise you on town hall pros and cons as well as up-to-date availability 
  • We guide you on how to submit the marriage application to the Danish government
  • You submit the marriage application online to the Danish government
  • You pay the online submission fee of 255€ to the Danish government upon submission
  • You (or we, if you prefer) communicate with the Danish government when required

Ceremony Booking with Town Hall

  • We guide you on how to book your wedding ceremony at your selected town hall
  • You book the ceremony at your selected town hall
  • You keep updated with the town hall

Before & After your Wedding Day

  • You plan your stay, but we are still available for you should you have any questions about anything further, up to and after your wedding day

This is for you if you want to leave the whole procedure in the hands of experts! Our team submits over 200 applications a month, and we know all the intricacies and requirements of the AFL. You simply send us the required documents, we prepare and submit your file. We will handle anything that may come up, not only up to the approval being issued by the Danish government, but up to your wedding day and even afterwards, if necessary!

Application Process with the Danish Government

  • You will be working with our Marriage Application Team, who’ll get to know you and define the detailed list of documents for your case
  • We inform you how and where you can get your documents legalised (only if required) 
  • You email us the documents specified in the detailed documentation list 
  • We check your documents to ensure they meet the requirements of the Danish government
  • We advise you on town hall pros and cons as well as up-to-date availability 
  • We prepare your marriage application and submit it online to the Danish government
  • We pay the online submission fee of €255 to the Danish government upon submission
  • We book your wedding ceremony at your selected town hall
  • We communicate with the Danish government when required
  • We keep track of your application until approved
  • We send you your approval when received by the Danish government

Ceremony Booking with Town Hall

  • You will then be working with our Wedding Day Team
  • You tell us your ideal ceremony dates 
  • We contact the town hall of your choice and check for the up to date availability*
  • We book the ceremony at your selected town hall
  • We keep updated with the town hall in case any changes might occur
  • And we inform you about any changes, such as slight changes in time, different entrance to use etc.  

*In case your ideal dates are not available, we can in some cases offer alternative dates or other options in a different town hall, changing the venue where required.

Before & After your Wedding Day

  • You will be planning your trip and stay in Denmark
  • We offer you our Wedding Day Team Team, dedicated to helping you with any questions you might come across from the day of your approval to your wedding and beyond
  • We can suggest to you our trusted vendors who offer between 10% – 15% discount for our couples 
  • We notify you of what is needed before and after your ceremony
  • Again, we keep you updated if there is any change

Our Mayday services are for couples who have already submitted their application to the AFL and received a request for further information, documentation or for an interview. 

These requests can sometimes cause confusion, which can be distressing and overwhelming for some couples who do not know exactly what to do next. 

To add to this, should the AFL ask questions, then the waiting period can be between 2 to 6 months, depending on how busy the AFL are. 

Our MayDay Services are designed exclusively for these situations, and we have 3 services available for you!

The Light Mayday Service is for those couples who have already received their approval but would like to move their wedding to a different town hall than the one stated on the approval. 

The Mayday Complete Service is for those couples who have applied to get married in Denmark but are now stuck in the AFL’s system, are yet to receive an approval and need help with what to do next. You’d like full guidance and help on how to move forwards with submitting a new application and would like us to take care of that for you. 

The Mayday Essential Service is also for those couples who have applied to get married in Denmark but are now stuck in the AFL’s system. You’d like help and guidance on how to move forwards but would still like to be responsible for making your new application and booking your wedding date.

 

Light Mayday Service

This service is for those couples who have already submitted their application to the AFL and received approval, but no longer want to get married at the town hall they specified on the application and would like to choose a different town hall. 

This may be for logistical reasons, the town hall does not have the date you want or, you simply decided you want to get married somewhere else. 

However, you are not sure how to change from the town hall you originally selected and need help. Don’t worry, we will do this for you!

  • We will inform you of the best available alternative town hall options based on your specific needs, their current availability, location etc
  • You sign the POA so that we can take over the handling of your file transfer with the AFL
  • We will liaise with the AFL on your behalf to initiate the file transfer process to the new town hall of your choice
  • The AFL will inform us once your file has been transferred to the newly selected town hall

 

Ceremony Booking with Town Hall

  • Once your file has been moved to the new town hall, you will then be working with our Wedding Day Team
  • You tell us your ideal ceremony dates 
  • We contact the town hall of your choice and check for the up to date availability*
  • We book the ceremony at your selected town hall
  • We keep updated with the town hall in case any changes might occur
  • And we inform you about any other possible changes that may arise, such as slight changes in time, different entrance to use etc.   

*Please note availability at the town halls changes very quickly, especially during the busier seasons

Before & After your Wedding Day

  • You will be planning your trip and stay in Denmark
  • We offer you our Wedding Day Team Team, dedicated to helping you with any questions you might come across from the day of your approval to your wedding and beyond
  • We can suggest to you our trusted vendors who offer between 10% – 15% discount for our couples 
  • We notify you of what is needed before and after your ceremony
  • Again, we keep you updated if there is any change

 

Mayday Essential

This service is relevant for you if you have submitted your application to the AFL but run into problems and need help with cancelling your original application and starting a new one. 

You still wish to maintain some control over your re-application, but you would like help and guidance along the way to ensure it runs more smoothly this time around. We will help you with your documents, and once your application is ready, you will take back control from there!

  • You send us the emails and letters sent to you by the AFL
  • You sign the POA so that we can take over the handling of your case with the AFL
  • We work out exactly what has gone wrong and what needs to be done next
  • We create a brand new file with all the required documents plus the corrected documents required by the AFL
  • We inform you on your timeline
  • Where applicable, we suggest an alternative town hall based on your required timeline
  • We send you your brand new file plus instructions so you can submit a brand new application to the AFL
  • Once you receive your approval, we give you instructions on how to book your ceremony at the town hall

 

Ceremony Booking with Town Hall

  • We guide you on how to book your wedding ceremony at your selected town hall
  • You book the ceremony at your selected town hall
  • You keep updated with the town hall should your plans need to change at any point

 

Before & After your Wedding Day

  • You plan your stay, but we are still available for you should you have any questions about anything further, up to and after your wedding day

 

Mayday Complete

This service is relevant for you if you have submitted your application to the AFL but run into problems and need a little help with cancelling your original application and starting a new one. 

You would like help with every part of organising your documents, submitting your new application and booking your ceremony in Denmark, moving forwards.

  • You sign the POA so that we can take over the handling of your case with the AFL
  • We work out exactly what has gone wrong and what needs to be done next
  • We create a brand new file with all the required documents for a wedding in Denmark including the corrected documents required by the AFL
  • We inform you on your timeline
  • Where applicable, we suggest an alternative town hall based on your required timeline
  • We submit a brand new application for you with the AFL

 

Ceremony Booking with Town Hall

  • Once your approval has been issued, you will then be working with our Wedding Day Team
  • You tell us your ideal ceremony dates 
  • We contact the town hall of your choice and check for the up to date availability*
  • We book the ceremony at your selected town hall
  • We keep updated with the town hall in case any changes might occur
  • And we inform you about any other possible changes that may arise, such as slight changes in time, different entrance to use etc.

 

*In case your ideal dates are not available, we can in some cases offer alternative dates or other options in a different town hall, changing the venue where required.

 

Before & After your Wedding Day

This is a service we provide after your wedding in Denmark.There is no time frame on when you can take our Apostille Service; This can be taken immediately after your wedding or years after. It is for those couples who will be using their wedding with their respective governments after their wedding, e.g to register the marriage or to apply for a spousal visa, and will need that extra layer of ‘legalisation’ on their marriage certificate. We do not have to have helped you with your wedding in Denmark for you to take this service.

  • You send your marriage certificate/s to our Apostille team (we will give you information on how to do this)
  • Once we receive your certificate/s we will then hand deliver them to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will check the information on your certificates after which they will affix the Apostille ‘stamp’ onto the back of your certificate/s
  • We will then return your certificate/s back to you at an address of your choice* via a tracked courier service

 

* The Apostille Service fee only covers the return to one address. An extra fee is incurred to cover the courier costs back to 2 separate addresses.

We Got Married In Denmark

Danish boy meets British girl, one thing led to another, and after a whirlwind romance, we (Mana & Rasmus) decided to get married in Denmark.

We experienced the process of getting married in Denmark, and all that is involved. We learned how important it is to have the support and inspiration to help you prepare for that special day. So we started an online wedding magazine to inspire couples who wanted a special touch to their celebration.

Frequently Asked Questions

​With our Complete Service, we support you the whole  way. Once you choose the service, we will send you a full and detailed documentation list with all the information needed in order for you to gather the necessary documents. This includes information on any legalisations needed and addresses of where you will get them.

We then process your application for you with the Agency of Family Law. If you have chosen our Essential service, we carry out all the steps we just mentioned, but we do not process your application for you. Instead, we give you instructions on how to do this yourself. 

Similarly, in organising your ceremony at the town hall with our Complete Service, we would do this all for you whereas, with our Essential service, we would give you the instructions on how to carry this out for yourself. 

The Complete Service offers that we take care of all contact and communication with the Agency of Family Law, and support you with your stay in Denmark through recommendations and advise. 

If you choose our Complete Service, the €255 application fee that has to be made to the Agency of Family Law is included in the price because we have to make the application on your behalf. 

With our Essential Service the fee is not included because you make the application yourself, and you would pay the fee during the process.  

If you decide, after receiving your free preliminary list of documentation, that you would like to go ahead with our services, we would ask you to pay the service fee before sending you our full and detailed list of documents needed to get married in Denmark. 

You can pay via a secure online link or you can choose to pay via a bank transfer. 

Although the Essential Service is our most popular service, we highly recommend that you take the Complete Service from the beginning.

This is because completing the application correctly can make a big difference to the time that it takes to process your application, and because we take care of the application for you as part of the Complete Service, you can be sure that it’s carried out correctly. 

If you’ve initially taken the Essential Service, but while you’re collecting documents have decided you would like us to take care of the application for you, this is very possible, and it’s easy to upgrade to our Complete Service. 

Customers who choose the complete service have the stress free assurance that we will handle all communication with the Agency of Family Law with our direct lines of communication. 

If you have taken the Essential Service and decide, after you have made your application, that you would like to upgrade to our Complete Service, this is also possible. 

The great thing about getting married in Denmark is that you can make this trip as affordable or as luxurious as you wish. 
 
The prices we show on our website are including taxes and without any hidden costs.
 
Other than the administration fee for the Agency of Family Law, there are no other fees to pay in Denmark regarding your marriage for example to the town hall. 
 
The expenses you need to consider separate to our service fees are travel, accommodation and wedding professionals.
 
It’s up to you how much you spend on these. 
 
Denmark is said to be expensive but you can make an affordable budget trip there by planning ahead and choosing more affordable accommodations and eateries.
 
Especially if you marry in Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, as there is something for every taste and every budget.
