1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing Getting Married in Denmark.

Before engaging our services, it is important that you first carefully read, understand and agree to the Getting Married in Denmark ApS Terms of Service.

To ensure mutual understanding and respect for each other, these terms of service allow us to be clear about the legal obligations and responsibilities between us.

By agreeing, you are bound by these Terms of Service. Please contact us if you have any queries or concerns.

We are so excited to get started on this with you! If you wish to know more about the Danish GDPR called Persondataforordningen, we recommend doing it at the provided link.

Definitions:

GMID - Getting Married in Denmark ApS

AFL - Agency of Family Law

Detailed Documents List - The email with the list of documents the AFL requires when one wishes to submit an application to get the approval to get married in Denmark

2. Payment Terms

Stripe

GMiD uses the 3rd party payment platform, Stripe, the Stripe API, and in conjunction, your Stripe account to process credit and debit card transactions.

By using the Stripe Check Out you agree to be bound by Stripe’s Terms of Service.

You expressly understand and agree that GMiD shall not be liable for any payments and monetary transactions that occur through your use of the Stripe Service.

You expressly understand and agree that all payments and monetary transactions are handled by Stripe. You agree that GMiD shall not be liable for any issues regarding financial and monetary transactions between you and any other party, including Stripe.

You are responsible for all transactions processed through Stripe. GMiD is not liable for loss or damage from errant or invalid transactions processed with your Stripe account. This includes transactions that were not processed due to a network communication error, or any other reason. If you process a transaction, it is your responsibility to verify that the transaction was successfully processed.

You understand that GMiD uses the Stripe API to run the Service and that the Stripe API is subject to change at any time and such changes may adversely affect the Service. You understand and agree to not hold GMiD liable for any adverse affects that actions (whether intentional or unintentional) on the part of Stripe may cause to your Stripe account, or your business.

You must not process stolen credit cards, or unauthorized credit cards through Stripe

GMiD does not have access to your payment details and as such GMiD is not able to update or change any type of information, such as but not limited to names and card details, that is added when making a payment through Stripe.

Transaction Security

All transaction information passed between GMiD and Stripe’s systems is encrypted using 256-bit SSL certificates. No cardholder information is ever passed unencrypted. You can be completely assured that nothing we pass to Stripe’s servers can be examined, used or modified by GMiD and/or any third parties attempting to gain access to sensitive information.

Payments by Invoice

If making a bank transfer via an invoice our service will start only when the funds have reached our accounts.

Price Changes

The prices as listed on our website at the moment you pay are the prices that apply. Our latest price change took place on 1st January 2025, changing the prices for the following services:

The Complete Service: before 845€, after 875€
The Upgrade Service: before 550€, after 580€

Other Prices and Expiration Dates of Our Services

Essential Service: 295€
Mayday Essential: 345€

We will help you update your file if needed up to four months after we send you your set of documents and the instructions for the online application. If more than four months have passed since we sent your file and the instructions, we charge a fee of 295€ to have your file reviewed and/or updated and to send you an updated set of your documents, regardless of whether or not you applied (Second Round Essential).

Complete Service: 875€
Mayday Complete: 875€

If you signed up for our Complete Service and we submitted your case to the AFL and, for whatever reason, you wish to apply again, we charge a fee of 580€ to review and update your file, submit your application again and book your wedding date (Second Round Complete). This 580€ again includes the administrative fee to be paid to the AFL.

Apostille Service: 250€ for the legalisation of one certificate; 35€ for any additional certificate legalised at the same time and returned to the same address; 70€ for shipment to an additional address.

Until six months after your wedding date, you can cancel this service before it is carried out and receive a full refund. Six months after your wedding date, we no longer refund, nor carry out the service.

Registrar Plus Service: 750€ (updated 16th June 2025)

Light Mayday: 195€

Second Round Essential: 295€
Second Round Complete: 580€
Second Round AFL: 305€

3. Cancellation Policy

Essential Service

With the Essential Service, it remains your responsibility to read the information given by the AFL on their website regarding fees and other procedures before payment or application.
We are not liable for any behaviour or delays that the AFL cause. The AFL reserves the right to request extra documentation and investigate at any time during the application.

If for any reason you decide to cancel our service after choosing our Essential Service, there can be no refund if GMiD has already sent you the Detailed Documents’ List.

With the Essential Service, GMiD does not pay nor are we liable for the administration fee for the AFL.You pay the fee directly to the AFL. The administrative fee is non-refundable, including when you decide to discontinue your case, decide not to get married during the approval period given to you and/or if the AFL decides to close or reject your case.

Complete Service

We are not liable for any behaviour or delays that the AFL cause. The AFL reserves the right to request extra documentation and investigate at any time during the application.

We are not liable if the date that you would like is not available at the town hall of your choice. We work with a number of carefully selected town halls and will always strive to find a solution for you (which may require that you stay flexible with your preferred dates and location).

If for any reason you decide to cancel our service after choosing our Complete Service and after GMiD has sent the Detailed Documents’ List:

a. we refund respectively €550 (Complete Service paid before January 1, 2025 as well as Mayday Complete) or €580 (Complete Service paid on or after January 1, 2025) if we have not yet made your application (and paid the administrative fee on your behalf to the AFL);

b. there can be no refund if we have processed your application (and paid the administrative fee on your behalf to the AFL).

After a partial refund, you can continue to use our Essential Service for four months, counting from the date the partial refund was processed by GMiD. After those four months, the Essential Service expires, and we no longer provide that service.

MayDay Service

We are not liable for any behaviour or delays that the AFL cause. The AFL reserves the right to request extra documentation and investigate at any time during the application. We are not liable if the date that you would like is not available at the town hall of your choice. We work with a number of carefully selected town halls and will always strive to find a solution for you (which may require that you stay flexible with your preferred dates and location).

If for any reason you decide to cancel our service after choosing our MayDay Service, there can be no refund if GMiD has already sent you the Detailed Documents’ List.

Second Round AFL Service

This service is for couples who used our Complete Service and who received questions from the AFL. The AFL’s response time can be considerable (see HERE). With our Second Round AFL Service, we offer the option to correct the item the AFL questioned and submit a new application, avoiding the long response time in the earlier case.

If you decide to cancel our service after choosing our Second Round AFL Service, there will be no refund if GMiD has already processed your new application.

Apostille Service

Until six months after your wedding date, you can cancel this service before it is carried out and receive a full refund. Six months after your wedding date, we no longer refund, nor carry out the service.

Once the service has been or is being carried out, there can be no refund.
If you made available less certificates than you paid for, we either refund the fee for the additional certificate(s) or carry out the service after we have received all the certificates for which you paid the legalisation fee.

If you wish to receive the certificates to two or more different addresses, we charge a fee of EUR 70 for each additional address.

Town Hall Ceremonies

A town hall ceremony is short, lasting around 5 – 7 minutes. It will begin with the registrar saying a short speech about the importance of marriage, before they turn to each of you, the couple, to ask if you will legally marry the other. You can say your own short vows and exchange rings if you wish. The paperwork is then signed.

Your wedding ceremony is carried out by the Danish government. The local authorities are responsible for this day and this is a service that they (and not GMiD) provide to you.

The wedding ceremony at the town hall is therefore not part of our service, and the service fee you pay to us, does not cover any aspect of this.

For this reason, if you cannot attend your appointment with the town hall or decide to cancel for any reason, no refund can be made.

Standard ceremonies at Copenhagen City Hall apply as per the above. When hiring a Private Registrar from Copenhagen City Hall for a ceremony at a venue outside the City Hall, or taking the Exclusive Island Ceremony Service on Ærø, please refer to the information contained in the sections titled ‘Exclusive Island Ceremony Service’, ‘The Copenhagen Wedding’ and ‘Private Registrar Plus’, below.

As part of our Complete Service and our MayDay Service, if you miss your appointment or need to reschedule, we will be happy to re-book another available date, where there is availability and within the validity period of your approval, without any further fees.

If your validity period has run out and we need to reprocess your application, we would be carrying out the service again and would ask for the usual service fees to be paid.

Private Registrar Plus Service

Under the Registrar Plus Service, all ceremonies are booked depending on the availability of the Copenhagen City Hall.

Pre-Reserved Ceremony

A Registrar Plus ceremony can be reserved up to a year in advance and no later than 6 weeks before the date of the wedding ceremony, for a ceremony to be held at a venue outside the city hall, up to 75km from the centre of Copenhagen. The AFL’s approval must be received four weeks before the reserved date or the Copenhagen City Hall will cancel your pre-reservation.

The pre-reservation is confirmed after both the approval and the payment for the service is received.

You are entitled to change the date to another (subject to availability) provided you request this at least 4 weeks before the currently reserved date.

If a reserved date is cancelled more than 4 weeks prior to the wedding date, a full refund for this service (€750) can be issued.

Booked Ceremony

A Registrar Plus ceremony can also be booked after approval is received. At that point, any available date can be booked. The reservation offered by the Copenhagen City Hall is confirmed upon payment of the service.

The Copenhagen City Hall is not able to guarantee a personalised speech with less than three weeks notice.

You may change or alter the date (subject to availability) up to 4 weeks before the booked date. If you decide to cancel the ceremony up to 4 weeks before the booked date, a full refund for the Private Registrar service (€750) will be issued.

If cancelled less than 4 weeks prior to the wedding date, no refund can be issued, regardless of reason for the cancellation. This reflects the refund policy of the Copenhagen City Hall.

The Copenhagen Wedding

  1. Pre-Ceremony Requirement
    • In-Person Document Presentation: You are required to present your original documents in person at the Copenhagen City Hall one working day prior to your ceremony date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your wedding.
    • Witnesses: The City Hall does not provide witnesses. If you require witnesses, the venue can provide them, but you must inform us in advance.
    • Ceremony Language: The ceremony will be conducted in English. If you require the ceremony to be held in any other language (including German), you must arrange and bring your own official interpreter.

       

  2. Booking Timeline
    • To ensure sufficient time for document gathering, application submission, and the AFL’s required 1-week processing time, your chosen wedding date must be at least 8 weeks from the date you engage our Service. This is because the City Hall only permits us to pre-reserve dates that are 6 weeks or more, from the desired wedding date. 
    • If an approval has not been received exactly 4 weeks before the reserved date, the City Hall will release the reservation without prior notice. 

       

  3. Cancellation & Refund Policy

    Our cancellation policy is structured based on two key factors: the timing of your cancellation notice (relative to your wedding date) and the submission status of your wedding application.

    • A. Cancellation MORE than 4 weeks before your booked wedding date

       

      • A.1 If your application has NOT been submitted:
        • At this stage, our Essential Service (€295) has been rendered, and its fee is non-refundable.
        • Refund for the remainder of the Complete Service: €580
        • Private Registrar Fee Refund: €750
        • Copenhagen Wedding Service Fee Refund: €945
        • Total Refund: €2,275

       

      • A.2 If your application HAS been submitted:
        • At this stage, our Complete Service (€875) has been fully rendered and its fee is non-refundable.
        • Private Registrar Fee Refund: €750
        • Copenhagen Wedding Service Fee Refund: €945
        • Total Refund: €1,695

           

    • B. Cancellation from exactly 4 weeks OR LESS from your booked wedding date

       

      • B.1 If your application has NOT been submitted:
        • At this stage, our Essential Service (€295) has been rendered, and its fee is non-refundable.
        • The Copenhagen City Hall automatically cancels all reservations 4 weeks prior to the ceremony date if an approval is not received. Private Registrar Fee Refund: €750
        • Refund for the remainder of the Complete Service: €580
        • Copenhagen Wedding Service Fee Refund: €945
        • Total Refund: €2,275

       

      • B.2 If your application HAS been submitted:
        • At this stage, our Complete Service (€875) has been fully rendered and its fee is non-refundable.
        • Additionally, as per the city hall’s policy, the Private Registrar fee is non-refundable within the 4-week period before the wedding date.
        • Copenhagen Wedding Service Fee Refund: €945
        • Total Refund: €945


    • C. Cancellation from exactly 1 week OR LESS from your booked wedding date

       

      • C.1 Your application HAS been submitted
        • At this stage, our Complete Service (€875) has been fully rendered and its fee is non-refundable.
        • Additionally, as per the city hall’s policy, the Private Registrar fee is non-refundable within the 4-week period before the wedding date.
        • The venue has already made staff & stock preparations for your wedding so you will receive a partial refund. Copenhagen Wedding Service Fee Refund: €865
        • Total Refund: €865

       

Exclusive Island Ceremony Service 

Under the Exclusive Island Ceremony Service, we will book a ceremony for you as soon as we have received your payment for this service. This means that you can reserve your date even before you have sent any of the required documents and/or before the AFL has issued approval for your marriage in Denmark. 

This date is guaranteed, albeit that it is subject to your approval being issued at least three days before the booked date and thus also subject to you working quickly with the Documents Team. Your approval must be received by the AFL no later than the Monday of the week your ceremony is booked.

Should the date need to be pushed back, this is possible, subject to availability on the new suggested date/s. There is no charge to move the wedding date.
If you cannot or decide not to use the booked date (or any alternative date) you will receive a refund of €620.

Bookings and Arrangements Around Your Wedding Date

GMiD strongly suggest you do not book or reserve anything (flights / accommodation etc) until your approval is received and your wedding date is booked.

GMiD is to no extent liable for any bookings for flights, hotels or any other kind of arrangements made for your trip to and stay in Denmark.

Legal entry to Denmark

Legal entry to Denmark is your responsibility. If you lack the right to enter Denmark legally, as a result, for example, of an infringement of the 90/180 rule, you cannot travel to Denmark to get married. The Agency of Family Law will also reject your application in this case.

GMiD has the right to terminate the services if we become aware of overstay in the Schengen Area and/or any infringement of the 90/180 rule after you paid for our Services. Any refunds will be issued in accordance with our cancellation policy.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you continue to meet the entry rules and requirements for travel to Denmark after you receive your AFL approval. For example, by continuing to adhere by the 90/180 or visa rules, where applicable.

The town halls will check your passports, entry & exit stamps and visa rules, for those where it is applicable before your wedding. If you do not meet the requirements, they will not be able to marry you.

GMiD cannot be held responsible for any breach of entry rules into Denmark.

Extra Documentation Requested and/or Documentation Verified by the AFL

The AFL may decide extra documentation is required. Likewise, the AFL may decide to forward certain documents to the National ID Center for verification. This cannot always be foreseen by us.
We cannot be held accountable for such a request nor for any inconvenience caused by such request.

In these cases, your case will incur delay, which varies depending on the workload of the  AFL. We will endeavour to help you to resolve any issues that arise and inform you, to the extent possible, on the time it will take the AFL to issue a final decision.

Interview with the AFL

In order to prevent Pro Forma marriages, the AFL may request for further information or ask you to come for an in-person interview, if the submitted information does not allow them to conclude that the sought marriage would be to share your life as a married couple (rather than to aid in obtaining a residence permit).

If you are called in for an interview and you decide to cancel the procedure, any refunds will be issued in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Use of Documents

In line with the GDPR legislation, we delete all your information (emails, messages and documents, etc.) according to our Privacy Policy. Fully anonymised copies of certain documents may be used for training purposes.

Force Majeure

In no event shall GMiD be responsible or liable for any failure or delay in the performance of its obligations hereunder arising out of or caused by, directly or indirectly, forces beyond its control, including, without limitation, strikes, work stoppages, accidents, illness, acts of war or terrorism, civil or military disturbances, nuclear, epidemics and pandemics or natural catastrophes or ‘acts of God’, and interruptions, loss or malfunctions of utilities, communications or computer (software and hardware) services; it being understood that GMiD will use reasonable efforts to resume service as soon as practicable under the circumstances.
