Prior to their perfect day in Denmark, Ananya and Will had unfortunately found themselves becoming victims of the notoriously complicated German bureaucratic system.
They visited their local city hall in Braunschweig to explore the possibility of getting married in Germany but discovered very quickly that the German process, especially for international couples, was incredibly complicated: multiple original documents needed, certified translations, embassy appointments, and even a document Ananya couldn’t obtain in India because it doesn’t exist there.
Choosing to get married in Germany would have been expensive, time consuming and stressful – everything they wanted to avoid! They were simply 2 people who happened to be from different countries; a couple desperately in love, who simply wanted to take that next committed step together – marriage. Why did this have to be so difficult?
Well, as Ananya and Will found out – it didn’t have to be difficult at all!
Ananya told us: “On that day in the City Hall in Braunschweig, the lady who assisted us with the German requirements of documents said to us that as a Plan B, we could consider travelling to Denmark and getting married.”
Ananya remembered that her boss, who is Danish, had also previously mentioned to her his experience of marrying his German wife in Copenhagen.
This was a sign!
So upon returning home, Ananya and Will typed ‘getting married in Denmark’ into their search engine. They couldn’t help but laugh when they discovered a Danish marriage application agency with that exact name. One click later, they had found their way to us here at Getting Married in Denmark and their path immediately felt clear.
Fast forward just over 6 months later and Ananya and Will were in Copenhagen, feeling excited and very ready to get married!
They had booked their stay in Denmark from 6th April to 12th April 2025 but at the heart of their trip was their wedding day; 10th April 2025. This date was made even more special because it marked exactly two years since they first met on 10 April 2023.
On the morning of their wedding, Ananya felt surprisingly calm. She watched The Big Bang Theory on TV while Will went to collect their flowers from The Green Room. At noon, make-up artist Anastasiia arrived and, as the final touches began, the day suddenly felt real: in just a few hours, they would be husband and wife. ❤️
Time flew. Will returned with the bouquet, then dressed in his suit – even teaching himself how to tie his tie that very morning by watching a video, which made Ananya laugh and feel relieved all at once.
Soon, photographer Vadim Shevcov arrived, taking his time to make Ananya and Will feel at ease in his presence, which allowed him to capture precious, quiet, and special candid moments of them over the course of their very special day.
When it was time, they drove to Copenhagen City Hall, feeling the seconds tick closer to their ceremony time: 15:10. Ananya’s excitement grew with every passing minute — until the moment they were called… or almost called! The witness was struggling to pronounce her name, and Ananya and Will, smiling, gently helped: “Are you trying to say Ananya and Will? Because we’re here — and ready.”
Once inside the ceremony room, the experience of their ceremony meant everything and more to Ananya and Will – even if it only lasted a few short minutes. The officiant spoke about love, promises, and the true meaning of marriage: being there not only in beauty, but also in hardship, sickness, and crisis. Ananya told us the words felt surreal, like something from the movies – except this time, it was real.
When Ananya said “I do,” she felt a rush of emotion unlike anything she’d ever experienced. Their rings, their kiss, the moment they became legally bound – it all felt deeply special.
After their ceremony, Ananya and Will spent a little time at the city hall, soaking up the magnificent atmosphere, having some pictures taken and enjoying these very special and newlywed moments together, before heading out to Nordhavn for a few pictures in the sunshine on the waterfront.
What is so wonderful about Ananya and Will’s trip to Denmark is that they spent just under a week here, exploring as much as they could! They rented a car and ventured beyond the city: the beauty of Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, the spectacular drive across the Øresund Bridge to Malmö, and later the dramatic cliffs of Møns Klint. It left them already planning their return – because Denmark, they said, was the kind of place you want to experience again and again.
We asked Ananya afterwards if their lives had changed much since getting married. She told us “Life together with my husband has always been wrapped in fun, adventure, thrill, excitement, emotional upheavals, exploring new and fascinating things … from the day we met each other. 😊🥰 So, it didn’t feel an enormous change as soon as we were officially husband and wife.”
It turned out that Denmark wasn’t just the easiest place for them to get married, it became the most unforgettable place to continue together on their happy life adventure, with the added bonus of an “I Do”!
We are so very happy for you both, Ananya and Will, we are delighted you found us and we hope you come back to Denmark again soon! 🇩🇰
