Town Halls and Wedding Locations in Denmark

Denmark is home to some of Europe’s most beautiful, romantic and historical wedding locations.

From Denmark’s iconic capital city; Copenhagen, to charming islands and seaside towns, you can choose the town hall that fits your love story perfectly, no matter where you’re from.

Where You Are in the Journey

The Most Popular Town Halls in Denmark

Every location within Denmark offers a slightly different experience, but these are the most popular with international couples:

Getting Married in Copenhagen: Denmark’s No.1 wedding location. Perfect if you want a stylish city wedding close to everything.
Getting Married in Frederiksberg: An elegant location just minutes from central Copenhagen.
Getting Married on Ærø Island: A romantic island escape known for its magical & calming atmosphere.
Getting Married in Odense: Denmark’s 3rd largest city and one of the most charming places to get married.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Wedding Location

Whether you prefer a quiet island ceremony or a quick city wedding, the right choice of location depends on your travel plans, timing, and personal preference regarding style and aesthetics.

This guide will help you compare accessibility, which days of the week ceremonies are held, response and waiting times.

How the Booking Process Works

Once you receive approval from the Danish Agency of Family Law (AFL), you can then book your ceremony at the town hall you chose on your marriage application.

We’ll explain how the booking process at the different town halls works, what to expect during this process, and how to make the process as smooth as possible.

Make Your Danish Wedding Simple and Special

Once your approval has been issued and the ceremony is booked, you can then turn your attention to those extra finishing touches; flowers, photos, hair, makeup, or a cozy celebration dinner.

At Getting Married in Denmark, we don’t sell or profit from any extra services.

Instead, we connect our couples with trusted local vendors who understand town-hall weddings – smaller, intimate, and beautifully simple.

Over the last 11 years we’ve built strong relationships with wedding professionals across Denmark.

These professionals exclusively offer our couples between 10 – 20% discounts. We have carefully chosen each one because they deliver quality, reliability, and great service. And we trust them.

These recommendations are shared personally once your wedding date is confirmed. You see someone you like the look of, we will check their availability and set up the introduction between you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Technically no, this is not possible. The town halls want to receive your AFL approval before they will allow you (or your agency) to book your date. However, there are few exceptions to this rule. For example, if you choose to get married at a location outside of the town hall, there are a couple of town halls who will allow you to reserve your date with them while you work on your application. The date is confirmed upon approval from the AFL.

In theory, yes! But practically, you might want to choose a town hall from the list of most common town halls that international couples choose to get married. This is because not all town halls in Denmark are the same! Some are set up perfectly to welcome international couples and some are not.

No, you must choose which town hall the AFL will send your file to upon approval of your application. So this means you must select a town hall as part of your marriage application. It’s possible to change your mind and select a different town hall, but remember that this can cause extra delays – town hall file transfers take anywhere between 1 day and 6 weeks.
