How did you get into wedding photography?
I was always passionate about photography in general, but weddings, especially elopements, made me believe in natural beauty. I started my carrier as a studio photographer in Kyiv, but quickly found interest in outdoor pictures; tried to go to big weddings, but finally found myself enjoying capturing small intimate weddings, where I can be in connection with the couple and make their day even more emotional with the pictures and memories.
What inspires you as a wedding photographer?
People! They are my biggest inspiration. Of course, I like books, paintings, and travelling, but only people can give me an emotional booster. I adore capturing emotions and seeing the happiness and joy, love and tears on the faces – I won’t ever be tired of spending time with people.
What are you favourite types of places to shoot pictures of a couple?
City streets, parks, small yards, even lakes or seaside. But the most important thing for me is a couple. Background and outfits make pictures look better looking, but the most adorable are the people in the pictures.
Which is your favourite picture of yourself and who took it?
I have plenty of pictures I like. And I am the person who hires a photographer multiple times every year. I love being surrounded by my sons and family in the pictures. So the most liked is a closeup picture with my husband, taken in Miami, we’re laughing there like crazy people. It was captured by a domestic photographer, whom I really adore.
What tricks do you use to help nervous couples relax for their pictures?
“Imagine your partner naked on the beach with 2 cocktails in their hands.” Honestly, a good simple talk always helps. And I talk and listen a lot. People like people who are ready to be in the dialogue. And they trust you very fast. There is trust – there is a sign of friendship – and it’s easy to be natural and emotional in front of a friend, even this friend with a professional camera.
What do you feel are the key things that make the perfect wedding portrait?
Trust your photographer. Honest communication, being on the same page and relax. I make a comfortable atmosphere and then I only need to push a button.
What is your dream location for a wedding shoot?
I am already working IN one. But I would love to capture a wedding in Barcelona.
What do you like to do when you’re not working on photography?
Teaching photography! Explaining to others how to become a photographer! Besides that, I love to spend time with my family: I have three wonderful sons. And travelling around the world!
What is the most important advice you would give to your younger self just starting out it photography?
Trust your guts and do it!
