How did you get into wedding photography?
It all started with my grandmother, who gave me my first camera on my 16th birthday, hoping we’d learn photography together. While she was focused on birds, I gravitated towards people, eventually discovering a passion for weddings. Weddings offer the perfect mix—real moments, awesome people, and stories that deserve to be told. I shot my first wedding in 2013, and in 2022, I took the leap to leave my teaching career behind and pursue full-time elopement and wedding photography. It’s been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
What inspires you as a wedding photographer?
Couples and their vision for their wedding day inspire me the most. Every wedding is one-of-a-kind, and I love hearing each couple’s ideas and plans. I also find inspiration in my family, friends, culture, and music—these elements add depth to my photography and help me bring a fresh perspective to every celebration.
What are you favourite types of places to shoot pictures of a couple?
My favorite places to shoot are wherever couples can be themselves. It’s not about a specific location; it’s about capturing the genuine connection between two people, with the setting simply serving as a natural backdrop to their story.
Which is your favourite picture of yourself and who took it?
My favorite photo is one my son took with my analog Olympus MJU II camera, loaded with Kodak Gold 200 film. That photo holds a special place for me—it’s incredible to share a passion with my son and to see things through his eyes.
What tricks do you use to help nervous couples relax for their pictures?
For me, it’s all about creating a relaxed, trusting connection. When couples feel comfortable, that’s when authentic, genuine photos come to life. There’s no magic formula; it’s simply about taking the time to understand each couple, helping them feel at ease so the moments unfold naturally.
What do you feel are the key things that make the perfect wedding portrait?
Trust is at the heart of it. When couples feel confident in their choice of photographer and can relax and enjoy each other, everything falls into place naturally. That’s what creates the best, most memorable photos.
What is your dream location for a wedding shoot?
I’d love to shoot an elopement in Canada or the Faroe Islands—two places on my bucket list. Capturing love against those dramatic landscapes would be an unforgettable experience.
What do you like to do when you’re not working on photography?
I’m all about shawarma, flat whites, and spending time with family and friends. I also hit the gravel trails on my bike—yes, in Lycra, which may not be the most flattering look, but it’s worth it for the ride!
What is the most important advice you would give to your younger self just starting out it photography?
Don’t worry—just go for it! Hold on to those analog cameras, dive into the van-life experience, and put all your savings into crypto. But most importantly, trust your instincts and keep capturing moments that truly matter.
