Why Get Married in Aarhus?

Aarhus is a buzzing city and one that will ensure a great time and guaranteed memory making! It’s a little further to travel than you might initially hope for, when you look at the journey on a map BUT when you investigate further, there are trains that run directly to Aarhus from Copenhagen, which does in fact make it just as easy to get to as some of the town halls much closer to Copenhagen. Aarhus also has its own (very small)  international airport!

So to rephrase the question; why wouldn’t you get married in Aarhus?!

Weddings in Aarhus town hall are conducted on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, however, Friday ceremonies will be held in Danish only, so if you do not speak Danish, then you must bring an interpreter with you if you choose to get married here on a Friday.

Witnesses are provided on Thursdays and Fridays, but NOT on Saturdays, so if you wish to get married on a Saturday, you must bring your own 2 witnesses with you.

The Aarhus marriage office is pretty fast at responding to date requests, usually within several days. That being said, they ask for at least 14 days between the date of your request and the prospective date of your wedding.

This can be done on the same day of your wedding, 10 minutes prior to your scheduled ceremony time.

The Look and Feel when Getting Married in Aarhus.

Aarhus town hall is simply stunning. It rivals Copenhagen City Hall in terms of grandeur and architecture, while being completely different. The outside of the city hall was purposely designed to be simple – starkly so, but the inside.. Just wow.

The inside was designed by architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller and is simply stunning. Check it out here! What an incredible and wonderful building to get married.

5 Things to See & Do in Aarhus

This is cool! 😀Den Gamle By is a collection of old houses that have been put together to make an Old Town. Houses from the last 400 years have been beautifully collected and preserved to take you on a tour of Denmark through time. You can visit houses from the 1930s or from the 1860s. The 1790s or the 1970s and so much more! It’s captivating, educational, interesting and tends to exceed the expectations of those that visit, according to Tripadvisor

This is a great museum with some really interesting and fascinating exhibitions. You can learn more about the history of mankind taking a visit to our Prehistory, the stone age, the Viking age and much more! A great tourist attraction to visit while in Aarhus.

The ARoS Art Museum proudly boasts the largest art collection in Denmark, outside of Copenhagen. Featuring art collections that span 300 years it has a wide array of ‘old’ and more classic pieces to modern art and everything in between. If you love art, then this is definitely the place for you to visit during your time in Aarhus.

Visiting the Latin Quarter of Aarhus city is a lovely way to while away a few hours. You can stroll through the cobblestone streets, window shopping, stopping for a coffee or a pastry (or both) and just soak up the history of this gorgeous part of the city.

Aarhus Cathedral, also known as St Clemens Church, stands proudly in the city centre and is a busy and important place of worship for Aarhus’ residents, as well as being another of Aarhus’ proud historical attractions. Taking a tour of this impressive cathedral will surely leave you impressed!
